Substrate Arts is an online magazine that provides in-depth, experimental, and long-form arts coverage of the Bay Area—inspired by the needs of local artists and art lovers. Cooperatively owned and managed by experienced local arts writers, Substrate Arts goes beyond writing reviews to uncover artists and movements while creating a permanent record of the amazing, yet transient, arts created here. We dig below the surface and reveal deep cultural and community roots embedded in each art narrative. Through development and expansion, Substrate Arts will grow into a thought catalog for the area’s most notable arts writers as well as an alternative training ground for new voices in arts journalism. We provide the arts coverage the Bay Area needs.
